Summer Walker has been steadily making a name for herself in realm of R&B and Hip-Hop. She came out the gate challenging gender norms and recreating the standards of women in R&B and that theme remains consistent with her new music video for the track "Body."
Summer Walker dropped the official music video for "Body" yesterday and it's effortlessly beautiful. The song is sexy by nature, describing how her heart, mind and "Body" need her lover, but the music video switches the narrative.
The Lacey Duke directed video captures no one but Summer, comfortable, elegant, and angelic by a California beach. The video had to have been shot recently, because it shows and embraces her baby bump.
The video redirects the theme of a sexual desire for another one's body, to the love of one's own body. We follow Summer as she embarks on her journey into motherhood, gracefully and beautifully; sending messages of body positivity and self love.
The Atlanta artist is expecting a child with frequent music collaborator, producer, and her current boyfriend, London on da Track. He produced most of her latest album, Over It which includes "Body."
Over It dropped in 2019 and achieved considerable success. It won Album of the Year at the 2020 BET Soul Train Awards and it was the most streamed album by a female artist on Apple music in 2020.
It featured Jhene Aiko, A Boogie, Usher, 6lack and more. Some of its biggest hits were "Playing Games" ft. Bryson Tiller, "Come Thru" ft. Usher and her recent video's "Body."
Why she waited over a year to release a video for it, fans aren't sure. Perhaps, she knew when she became pregnant that it would make for a perfect visual for the track...
If so, it was a good call. Check out Summer Walker's latest video for "Body" here.
